RAWALPINDI – The Anti-terrorism Court on Wednesday recorded statement of an FIA official in late Benazir Bhutto murder case and adjourned the hearing till February 29.
According to details, as hearing started today, FIA Assistant Director Shoaib Ahmed recorded his statement as he was member of the Joint Investigation team which investigated the case.
In the statement, an official of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had told him about budging a telephone call of Baitullah Mehsud – late chief of a banned organization – in which he was telling a religious scholar about the murder of late Benazir Bhutto (BB).
FIA Assistant Director Shoaib Ahmed, who is also investigation officer of the high-profile case, told the anti-terrorism court (ATC) that he being investigation officer had recorded the statement of ISI official Ismail who taped the conversation between Mehsud and the religious scholar.
ATC Judge Rai Muhammad Ayub Marth made the statement of the FIA officer as part of court record and adjourned the hearing till February 29, 2016. The FIA assistant director was also cross-examined by the defence lawyer.
Talking to journalists, Naseer Ahmed Tanoli, who is representing Aitzaz Shah, an accused of BB murder, said that he asked FIA officer during cross examination as if he recorded the statement of ISI official and his reply was affirmative. He said that Ismail in his statement had noted that he recognised voice of Mehsud in the conversation.
Ismail, in his statement, said that he belonged to same area and knew Pashto language.
